Lisa Seltzer Becker has been practicing law since 1996, with a career focus on family law and education law.

Lisa’s experience in both family and education law gives her a unique ability to support clients by navigating complex legal matters involving children, families, and schools. Whether handling a high-conflict custody dispute or advocating for a student facing suspension or a Title IX hearing, Lisa brings a thoughtful and strategic approach tailored to each client's specific needs. Her deep understanding of how family dynamics and educational systems intersect allows her to serve as a trusted advisor to parents, students, administrators, and faculty seeking guidance through emotionally charged and high-stakes situations.

In her education law practice, Lisa represents students, families, faculty, and administrators at colleges universities, as well as in public and private K-12 schools. She has successfully prevented student expulsions, secured settlements to remove disciplinary actions from academic records, and defended students in Title IX and academic misconduct hearings. Lisa works closely with families navigating special education disputes, disciplinary matters, and school-related bullying or harassment claims, offering both advocacy and practical solutions. She has represented students and families in matters with public school systems throughout Maryland, including Montgomery County Public Schools and Howard County Public Schools, as well as private schools. Her clients value her ability to balance assertive representation with sensitivity to the emotional and educational impact these matters can have on students and their families.

As an experienced family law attorney, Lisa has helped numerous clients in Maryland and the District of Columbia with their divorce and custody matters. As an experienced litigator, Lisa is also a trained Collaborative Law practitioner and a skilled negotiator. She utilizes these skills whenever possible to reach an agreement outside the courtroom, thereby obtaining the best outcome for her clients in the most cost-efficient manner. Lisa is a trained mediator and offers this service for divorce and custody cases.
