January 17, 2025

Offit Kurman is pleased to announce that James Figliozzi has joined the firm’s New York City office as counsel. A seasoned commercial litigation attorney, James brings a wealth of experience in providing strategic counsel and effective representation to businesses across a wide array of industries.

James’ practice focuses on navigating complex disputes in state and federal courts, mediations, arbitrations, and appeals. In addition to his commercial litigation work, James has developed a multifaceted practice addressing Title IX cases, college disciplinary proceedings, special education disputes, and defamation matters. He represents both students and professors in cases involving academic dishonesty, harassment, sexual misconduct, due process violations, First Amendment challenges, and discrimination claims.

James’ career highlights include serving as second chair in a 2022 trial that resulted in a $5.3 million unanimous jury verdict for a former Clemson University student falsely accused of rape. The verdict, among the largest in Upstate South Carolina involving a private individual, was awarded in a defamation and civil conspiracy case. James also prepared a successful writ to the South Carolina Supreme Court, securing a landmark decision that redefined the oversight of discovery delegation in civil cases.

James began his legal career as a law clerk for Chief Judge William P. Greene, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in Washington, D.C.
