Offit Kurman Announces Continued Growth in the Southeastern United States

The firm will join forces with Greensboro, North Carolina’s Hagan Barrett

BETHESDA, MD. – August 1, 2022 – Offit Kurman announced today that it will welcome the attorneys from Greensboro, North Carolina’s Hagan Barrett PLLC, to the firm. Hagan Barrett is a boutique law firm recognized for providing specialized legal services to businesses and individuals in North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad and throughout the state. Hagan Barrett’s practices are concentrated in the areas of corporate and business transactions, complex business litigation, employment, tax, trusts and estates, litigation, and commercial real estate. When the combination becomes effective on August 1, 2022, Offit Kurman will assume the Hagan office space in downtown Greensboro, marking its eighteenth office, and the six partners from Hagan Barrett will join as principals.

In 2019, the firm affiliated with one of Charlotte, North Carolina’s oldest and most respected law firms, Horack Talley, and added 27 lawyers. Since that time, the firm also opened offices in Rock Hill and Spartanburg, South Carolina. Offit Kurman plans to continue to grow its presence in the Southeast as well as in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

The Hagan Barrett attorneys joining Offit Kurman include:

J. Alexander S. Barrett is a litigator who handles an array of business and commercial matters in state and federal courts and arbitrations, ranging from complex trust and estate cases, individual and class action matters, shareholder, securities, product liability, real estate litigation, to contract cases and insurance coverage matters. He also maintains an active employment practice focused on employers and their executives.

Charles T. Hagan III is a corporate attorney who counsels clients of all sizes and on a wide range of business endeavors, working with start-ups through mature businesses as well as foreign companies seeking to do business in the United States. He also advises family businesses that are facing the challenges of succession planning.

Robert D. Douglas III brings deep experience working with individuals and businesses to assist them in reaching their goals. His client work includes working closely with clients to help them navigate estate planning and administration issues, as well as managing complex and ever-changing estate tax laws to produce the most beneficial outcomes. In addition, he has extensive experience in Special Proceedings involving foreclosures and partition proceedings.

Thomas E. Medlin, Jr. focuses his practice on the representation of owners and developers of commercial real estate. He has extensive experience in complex sale, lease, finance, and other transactions for residential, retail and commercial development, as well as in corporate and public/private industrial projects. His practice also includes sophisticated estate and trust planning matters.  He has served as an attorney for several municipalities.

Kurt A. Seeber represents businesses, executives and other professionals in complex civil litigation in administrative forums and state and federal trial courts and provides counsel on a wide range of business disputes ranging from matters involving insurance coverage, breach of contract, employment, breach of fiduciary duty, unfair and deceptive trade practices, to complex occupational disease and product liability matters, including multi-party/multi-district litigation. His practice also includes handling matters related to internal investigations and compliance, e-discovery and appeals.

Scott K. Tippett advises individual, family, and closely-held business clients on structuring corporate transactions, mergers, and acquisitions in a tax-efficient manner. He also represents clients in tax matters before the Internal Revenue Service and North Carolina Department of Revenue.

In this capacity, she managed the finance, accounting, payroll, account payables, procurement and merchandise operations for the team and race. She also previously served for four years as the Director of Finance and Controller at the Los Angeles Rams. Llamas Llopis started her career in public accounting with Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers as a member of the Commercial Real Estate practice.  Llamas Llopis completed her MBA at UCLA Anderson School of Management and received her Master of Accountancy from the University of Southern California (USC) where she also graduated cum laude with an undergraduate degree in business. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) and is an active CPA. She resides in Baltimore with her husband, Devin, and their son, Santiago. Andrew Cushnir • The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore   President & Chief Executive Officer Andrew Cushnir is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Associated, having started in the role in May 2024. He is the eighth person to serve in this role since The Associated’s founding over 100 years ago. Andrew brings a wealth of experience and a profound dedication to strengthening and enriching the Jewish community. His journey within the Jewish Federation system began as a passionate lay leader and volunteer before he transitioned into serving as a professional. He worked for the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles for twenty years, including in the roles of Chief Planning and Program Officer and Chief Development Officer. During this time, Andrew played a crucial role in reshaping the allocation process and fostering a culture of collaboration and partnership and he also led all annual, project, and emergency fundraising, as well as planned giving efforts. As a member of the Federation’s executive team, he also addressed complex community and organizational issues. Mike recently celebrated his 20th anniversary with Canusa and has overseen a doubling of the business in the past five years. Mike’s first role at Canusa was an intern before moving into a risk management role.
