NEW YORK – April 1, 2021 – Offit Kurman is pleased to announce that New York franchise attorney Thomas Pitegoff has been named to the Franchise Times’ 2021 Legal Eagle list for his transactional work representing franchisors. He is one of approximately 200 U.S. attorneys name to receive this honor. Mr. Pitegoff was previously named to the list in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2009-2019.

According to the Franchise Times, Legal Eagles are a unique breed — they live and breathe franchising, and they’re at the top of their game. Legal Eagles are the ones you call with franchise disclosure and sales questions and to ensure contracts are up to snuff. They are legal professionals who are an essential part of the franchise industry. Attorneys are selected based on the number and quality of their nominations, with weight given to detailed nominations from clients and from peers in firms other than their own.

Thomas Pitegoff is an internationally recognized leader in the franchise field. He counsels international, national, regional and start-up franchisors in a variety of industries to structure their franchise systems effectively and comply with state and federal franchise laws. He assists businesses in acquiring franchise companies, and he represents foreign franchisors in their U.S. business and U.S. franchisors expanding abroad. Mr. Pitegoff also represents multi-unit franchise developers and assists clients in resolving issues with state franchise regulators.

Mr. Pitegoff also advises businesses on alternatives to franchising. His work includes license and distribution agreements, company structures, acquisitions, service agreements, information technology agreements and intellectual property counseling. Mr. Pitegoff has written on franchise topics for journals and books published by the American Bar Association's Forum on Franchising, among others.
