Douglas Kay to Speak on Artificial Intelligence at the 134th Annual Meeting of the Virginia Bar Association
Offit Kurman attorney Douglas Kay will join an esteemed panel at the Virginia Bar Association’s (VBA) 134th Annual Meeting to discuss the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on the legal field. Doug will moderate the presentation, titled “AI: Harnessing a Rapidly Evolving Tool,” alongside speakers, Virginia State Bar Ethics Counsel Emily F. Hedrick, Robert D. Michaux of Christian & Barton and John B. Farmer of Leading-Edge Law Group, PLC. Together, they will explore AI’s integration into law practice, addressing its advantages, limitations, ethical challenges, and current legal implications.
Doug’s presentation will provide an in-depth look at how AI can streamline legal tasks, such as document review, summarization, and issue spotting, while also discussing its risks, including AI “hallucinations” and potential inaccuracies. The session will reference notable cases like Mata v. Avianca, Inc., illustrating the importance of oversight in AI use to ensure that attorneys maintain the highest standards of professional conduct.
This program, hosted by the VBA’s Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law Section and the Law Practice Management Division, is approved for 1.5 MCLE credits (0.5 Ethics) and is designed to equip attendees with practical strategies for responsible AI adoption in their practices.
