Portrait of Leah Freedman

Leah Freedman

Attorney

Leah Freedman advises financial institutions and corporate clients on bankruptcy, restructuring, and creditor-rights matters, with a practice grounded in practical risk management and operational clarity. She works closely with in-house teams and business stakeholders to navigate consumer bankruptcy issues, servicing challenges, and compliance concerns, supporting both legal and business objectives.

Leah brings significant in-house experience to her practice, having supported large financial services operations across retail banking, small business lending, and auto finance. She counsels clients on bankruptcy strategy, servicing operations, litigation risk, regulatory compliance, and policy development. Her practice includes advising on sworn-document requirements, remediation efforts, and enterprise-level initiatives designed to strengthen internal controls and reduce exposure. She also played a key role in business-continuity planning during a significant financial institution merger, giving her a deep understanding of how legal decisions affect day-to-day operations at scale.

In addition to bankruptcy matters, Leah provides guidance on collections and loan servicing, with a focus on security interests, loss mitigation strategies, and both offensive and defensive levies and garnishments. She has extensive experience defending financial institutions in consumer bankruptcy proceedings and understands creditor defense not only from a litigation perspective, but also from an institutional and cultural standpoint.

Earlier in her career, Leah managed a high-volume creditor-defense bankruptcy practice, leading teams handling complex consumer matters and working closely with clients to develop efficient, repeatable processes. She has contributed to industry organizations focused on mortgage servicing and bankruptcy issues, spoken at industry conferences and private financial institution retreats, and served on a federal bankruptcy court rules committee, reflecting her engagement with the evolving regulatory landscape.

Leah also has experience with trusts, estates, and guardianship matters, allowing her to advise clients on issues that intersect with insolvency, asset protection, and fiduciary responsibilities. A Maryland native, she is committed to providing diligent, solutions-oriented representation that is responsive to client needs and grounded in a clear understanding of business realities.
