Portrait of Jonathan Gitlin

Jonathan Gitlin

Principal

Jonathan Gitlin helps clients navigate the financial and legal challenges that come with bankruptcy, restructuring, and related disputes. He represents debtors, creditors, trustees, and receivers in matters before both state and federal courts, combining nearly two decades of broad litigation and restructuring experience with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset.

Jonathan’s practice spans all phases of bankruptcy and restructuring, from guiding debtors through Chapter 11 reorganizations to protecting creditor rights in complex insolvency proceedings. He has represented receivers in managing and liquidating distressed assets, handled adversary proceedings involving fraudulent transfers and preference claims, and advised purchasers of assets out of bankruptcy. He also counsels businesses facing financial pressure on options to restructure debt outside of court, including negotiated workouts and forbearance agreements.

Earlier in his career, Jonathan handled a wide range of civil litigation, including business disputes, real estate conflicts, and appellate work. This broad base of experience allows him to bring a holistic view to restructuring matters, particularly when financial distress intersects with ongoing litigation or operational challenges. Clients value his ability to quickly assess the core issues of a case and develop strategies that balance legal outcomes with business realities.

Before entering the practice of law, Jonathan worked as a software engineer and later taught computer science at a university overseas.  This technical background informs his approach to problem-solving and helps him distill complex issues into clear, actionable guidance.

A native Texan who has also lived in the Midwest and on the West Coast, Jonathan brings a broad perspective to his work and his relationships with clients. Outside the office, he enjoys reading and listening to podcasts about history and the law, as well as spending time with his children and learning about what excites them.
