Portrait of Augie Curtis

Augustus "Augie" Curtis

Counsel

With nearly 30 years of experience, Augie Curtis represents clients in complex commercial litigation and significant Chapter 11 proceedings across the United States. His practice has encompassed various matters in bankruptcy and commercial disputes, including service as a subchapter V bankruptcy trustee and as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Augie has represented Chapter 11 trustees and numerous other stakeholders in high-stakes insolvency matters. While at the Department of Justice, he litigated on behalf of the United States in several nationally significant Chapter 11 cases. He has extensive experience with distressed healthcare entities, representing hospitals, creditors, landlords, and other parties in complex healthcare insolvencies. His work has also included litigation involving Medicare provider issues, antitrust concerns in bankruptcy, False Claims Act investigations and qui tam actions.

Beyond bankruptcy and healthcare, Augie has broad experience handling commercial disputes in both federal and state courts. He has a firm background in construction litigation and has advised construction businesses throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Augie’s approach to legal representation is rooted in three core principles:

  • Integrated Client Relationships – He believes in becoming a committed member of the client’s business team, working to fully understand the facts, financials, and business objectives behind every legal issue.
  • Open, Frequent Communication – He values consistent and candid dialogue, fostering the trust needed to provide meaningful and sometimes challenging counsel.
  • Strategic Perspective – He dedicates significant effort to understanding the opposing side’s position. This mindset not only aids in negotiation but also strengthens litigation strategy when a case must be tried.
