Stewart Epstein

Stewart Epstein is engaged in the general practice of law, with an emphasis on labor and employment law and commercial litigation, but with a diverse background in many areas of law during his forty-plus year career. While primarily a litigator, he has broadly-based transactional experience as well.

Stewart’s extensive litigation practice, generally as defense counsel, spans both the Federal and State courts, as well as civil and religious arbitrations and mediations, from the inception of cases through discovery, motion practice, trials and appeals. In addition to representing numerous corporate clients and individuals, Stewart has served as outside counsel for private educational institutions, and as special counsel for governmental entities on Long Island, handling complex litigation and diverse matters of governmental and public importance.

Stewart’s multi-faceted background has enabled him to successfully represent clients in a wide range of matters.

In his labor and employment law practice, Stewart has many years of litigation and advisory experience in matters involving discrimination and civil rights, sexual harassment including prevention and education, wage and hour law claims, wrongful termination, restrictive covenants, contract disputes, counseling employers on workplace policies and compliance, drafting and negotiating employment contracts and severance agreements and reviewing and drafting employee handbooks and policies.

In his commercial law practice, in addition to serving as litigation counsel, Stewart’s background has encompassed a variety of subject areas, among which include partnership and shareholder agreements and disputes, issues involving religious and not-for-profit corporations and organizations, commercial contract disputes, antitrust and unfair competition, trade defamation, construction contract disputes, real property, zoning and land use claims, negotiating commercial leases, to name just some.
