Offit Kurman Elects Timothy Lynch to Succeed Founder Ted Offit as Executive Chairman

[Bethesda, MD] — [September 23, 2026] — Offit Kurman, an Am Law 200 firm and a national leader in serving privately held businesses, today announced that its Board of Directors has elected Timothy “Tim” Lynch as Executive Chairman-Elect. Mr. Lynch will assume the role of Executive Chairman on January 1, 2027, succeeding founder Theodore “Ted” Offit, who has guided the firm’s vision and growth for nearly four decades.

This leadership transition reflects a deliberate, long-term strategy designed to sustain Offit Kurman’s momentum and position the firm for continued expansion in an evolving legal marketplace. Mr. Offit will remain Executive Chairman through December 31, 2026, ensuring a seamless leadership transition.

Following the transition, Mr. Offit will serve as an Advisor to the firm’s Executive Leadership team, continuing to provide strategic insight as the firm advances its next chapter.

Mr. Lynch brings more than two decades of leadership at Offit Kurman and has played a central role in shaping the firm’s growth, governance, and strategy. As a former Managing Principal, current President, and longtime member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, he has been one of the essential architects of the firm’s growth. Mr. Lynch shaped the development of the internal governance structure, which has increased revenue from $5M when he joined to well over $200M today. He has championed the recruitment value proposition that defines how Offit Kurman approaches lateral growth - built on the principle of amplifying an attorney's practice. His broad experience as a practitioner grounds his firm leadership in the day-to-day realities of client service that Offit Kurman was built to deliver.

“It is an honor to step into this role at such a pivotal and exciting time for our firm,” said Mr. Lynch. “Offit Kurman has always been defined by its entrepreneurial spirit, its commitment to clients, and forward-thinking approach to legal services. I look forward to building on that foundation, expanding our reach, deepening our capabilities, and continuing to deliver exceptional value to the businesses and individuals we serve.”

Under Mr. Offit’s leadership, Offit Kurman has grown from a start-up in Baltimore into a nationally recognized AMLAW200 firm with more than 300 attorneys across 19 offices in 13 states and jurisdictions. Founded by Mr. Offit, his brother Maurice Offit, and longtime family friend Howard Kurman, the firm is known for its distinctive focus on privately held businesses, mid-market companies, and private-wealth clients. Mr. Offit’s continued involvement ensures continuity while the firm executes its strategic priorities.

“This transition represents exactly what we have always worked toward: building a firm that lasts. Tim is a proven leader who understands our culture, our clients, and our vision for the future,” reflected Mr. Offit. “I am confident Offit Kurman’s best days are ahead, and I am excited to support the firm as it continues to grow and evolve.”

G2. Designing Secure Practices: Cybersecurity, Data Privacy, Contractual Provisions, and Insurance Risks for Architects (4:00 PM - 5:30 PM) Architects and design professionals increasingly rely on cloud platforms, BIM software, and digital tools to manage sensitive data, creating cybersecurity and privacy risks. A single incident can trigger liability claims, regulatory obligations, reputational harm, and insurance challenges. Yet many firms underestimate how contracts, insurance, and internal practices intersect during a breach. This program offers legal and insurance perspectives on cyber risk in architecture, examining liability exposure, risky contract provisions, and mitigation strategies. A cyber insurance expert will explain policy responses, coverage gaps, coordination with professional liability, and best practices for aligning insurance with contractual risk and protecting firms from evolving cyber threats. Learning Objectives: Identify key cybersecurity and data privacy risks faced by architecture firms and explain how these risks can impact professional liability and project outcomes. Analyze common contractual provisions to determine which clauses may increase exposure to cyber incidents and propose strategies to mitigate these risks. Evaluate the scope and limitations of cyber insurance policies, including coordination with professional liability coverage, to determine how a policy would respond in a breach scenario. Develop actionable risk management strategies by integrating legal, contractual, and insurance considerations to protect sensitive client and project data.
