Offit Kurman is pleased to announce that family law attorney Catherine “Kate” Huger McQueen was appointed to the Montgomery County Circuit Court by Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

“I have full confidence that Catherine Huger McQueen… will serve on the bench with distinction,” said Governor Moore in an official announcement from late October. He thanked Kate and her two fellow appointees for their dedication to justice and exemplary legal service.

Guided by over two decades of legal experience, Kate regularly manages guardianship and conservatorship cases, where she represents both children and adults. Kate also addresses disputes among family members concerning capacity and fiduciary matters related to powers of attorney, trusts, and estates. Clients describe Kate as a compassionate and responsive problem solver who skillfully navigates the emotional challenges of family disputes, often finding creative resolutions that preserve resources and foster positive relationships.

“Kate’s appointment reflects her years of hard work and commitment to fairness and equity in her legal practice,” said Offit Kurman President Timothy Lynch. “We are excited to see her bring her knowledge, integrity and passion for the law to the Circuit Court.”

The Montgomery County Circuit Court is vital in administering justice within the Sixth Judicial Circuit, handling serious criminal matters, substantive civil cases, domestic issues, and child support cases. It is the only court in the county authorized to conduct jury trials, ensuring fair and efficient legal proceedings for residents.
