Offit Kurman Launches Environmental and Sustainability Practice Group Helmed by Principal Matthew Karmel

BETHESDA, MD. – September 26, 2022 – Offit Kurman is pleased to announce the arrival of Principal Attorney Matthew Karmel as the Chair of its newly launched Environmental and Sustainability Practice Group. Mr. Karmel joins the firm in its East Hanover, New Jersey office, and is also a member of the Real Estate Law and Transactions group.

Mr. Karmel has been recognized for his influence and leadership in relation to the environment and the circular economy.  His practice encompasses the full range of environmental matters, including traditional environmental counseling and litigation, brownfields redevelopment and site remediation, as well as sustainability, renewable energy and waste management. From Fortune 100 companies to individual homeowners, Mr. Karmel provides clients with practical and pragmatic environmental counsel.

“It’s not enough today for businesses to simply comply with applicable environmental laws,” said Mr. Karmel.  “Businesses are simply more effective and more successful when they incorporate sustainability and climate-consciousness into their DNA.  I am excited to help our clients advance innovative circular solutions, simply and effectively.”

Among numerous recognitions, Mr. Karmel has been named to the 2022 NJBiz Law Power 50 and to the inaugural 2022 ROI-NJ “Influencers in Law” list as a “Rising Star,” both of which recognize the most influential attorneys in the Garden State. He has also been recognized on the Waste360 “40 Under 40” list for 2022, which acknowledges impressive professionals under 40 in the waste and recycling industry.

Mr. Karmel received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Rutgers University and his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
