I ran for office twenty years ago to make a difference in Haverford Township. To set an example for my kids. In 2011, I got that rare chance to make that difference.

In a shocking number of places in America, including PA, employers can fire their employees for being gay. Gay people can't rent apartments, buy wedding cakes, teach, or enjoy all the same rights heterosexual people and couples take for granted. And it is only getting worse with the villainization effort at the federal level of all people who do not define themselves as "straight." BUT, in a large number of counties, cities, townships and boroughs in PA, their elected leaders chose to expand human and civil rights and protect those citizens in their jurisdictions.

In 2011, Haverford Township became the seventeenth municipality in PA to pass legislation doing so, which initiative I proudly spearheaded.

So every June, the Township proudly hoists the Pride flag to remind the rest of the world that invidious discrimination has no place in a wonderful community like Haverford Township.
