Seymour Stern Celebrates 55 Years in Business and Real Estate Law
Frederick, MD | October 3, 2017 Seymour B. Stern, a Principal with Offit Kurman, is celebrating his 55th year of legal service this month. October 14th marks the milestone for Mr. Stern, who began practicing law on the same day in 1963. And on October 16th, Mr. Stern—along with six others—will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from Frederick High School, where the veteran attorney will be representing the Class of 1956.
Five years ago, in recognition of his five decades serving business owners and entrepreneurs in Frederick, the city presented Mr. Stern with a “50th Anniversary Serving the Frederick Community Resolution.” The same year, the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) featured Mr. Stern in the MSBA’s “Maryland Legal Lions” video series, which highlights the wisdom, experience, and motivations of Maryland’s long-practicing bar members for the benefit of younger and future generations of attorneys, as well as their own contemporaries.
“Mr. Stern is one of the foremost attorneys of Frederick,” Ted Offit, Offit Kurman CEO said at the time. “He has a superb reputation based upon his long association with Frederick’s business community, his participation in numerous civic organizations, and his reputation for providing the highest level of ethical services.”
Mr. Stern concentrates his practice in three distinct and interrelated areas: business transactions, estate planning and administration and real estate transactions and land use. He has particular experience counseling entrepreneurs from startup to transfer or sale. In recognition of his work, Mr. Stern’s peers have granted him the highest possible rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubble®.
In addition to his practice, Mr. Stern is also a leader in professional organizations. In 1976, he and several others founded the Maryland Institute of Continuing Professional Education for Lawyers (MICPEL), which became the largest provider for continuing legal education in MD for over 34 years. Mr. Stern led the organization through the first 15 years as its President, Vice President, Secretary, or member of the Board of Trustees. He has also served as President of the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA), member and Chair of the Board of the Frederick Community College, Vice Chair and Board Member of Frederick Memorial Health Care Systems, and Chair of the United States Magistrate Judge Selection Panel. A Life Fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation, Mr. Stern currently is a member of the Estate and Trusts Section, Real Property and Zoning Section of the Maryland Bar Association.
