Offit Kurman Is a Global Leader in Legal Technology Training
For Immediate Release Maple Lawn, MD | October 7, 2015 Offit Kurman is pleased to announce that three of the firm’s training programs have been recognized with LTC4 Certification, including the first Cybersecurity certification awarded globally. LTC4 (the Legal Technology Core Competencies Certification Coalition) is an international nonprofit coalition of over 80 law firms, corporate law departments, and law schools. To earn approval for certification, organizations must develop comprehensive learning plans that align with LTC4 standards and provide evidence of employee proficiency. By certifying staff in Cybersecurity, Managing Documents and Emails, and Time and Billing, the firm is building on its reputation for innovation. As practitioners enhance their skills through the certification programs, they observe increased efficiency and reduced clerical errors. The result is a higher level of service to clients, especially those concerned about document security. Offit Kurman joined LTC4 in 2013, working collaboratively with other companies to establish the Core Competencies that would be the foundation for the Certifications. In 2014, Offit Kurman launched Offit Kurman University (OKU). OKU offers online, interactive skill enhancement and professional growth courses for attorneys and support staff. Industry certification is not the only objective of OKU. One of OKU’s current initiatives is the institution of a paper-light working environment throughout Offit Kurman’s multiple office locations. The initiative blends processes and the latest technology, affirming the firm’s cultural values toward higher efficiency and lessened environmental impact. “Professional development is essential to any organization,” said Tony Gerdes, the firm’s software trainer and LTC4 Steering Committee Member. “That we have embraced learning to this extent is really a testament to our staff and leadership.” Mr. Gerdes is not alone in bringing technology training to Offit Kurman. He collaborates with Robert Skinner, Director of Information Technology at the firm, to guide OKU’s vision and strategy in order to build the program’s value for attorneys and their clients. “Offit Kurman, as an organization, is really embracing this methodology and framework,” said Mr. Skinner. “OKU and the LTC4 certifications go beyond technology training. It’s part of how we incorporate staff into the firm. We prepare our professionals to understand and implement the whole gamut of technologies, processes and policies, so clients can be assured billable time isn’t going to waste.” Howard Kurman, Offit Kurman co-founder and labor and employment attorney, echoed Mr. Skinner’s sentiments. “Our clients place their trust in us, and we take that responsibility very seriously. This training allows attorneys to deepen their client relationships by utilizing the latest in technological advances to aggressively and efficiently represent such clients.” More information about LTC4 is available at the coalition’s website, www.ltc4.org.
