Offit Kurman Attorney Michael Donnelly Invited to Speak at National Business Institute’s Continuing Legal Education Program

Baltimore, MD | July 20, 2017  Michael Donnelly, a principal who specializes in estates and trusts at Offit Kurman, will speak at National Business Institute’s (NBI) August Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program. NBI hosts in-person and online legal educational curricula for professionals across the United States. This program, Protecting Assets While Qualifying for Medicaid, will take place on August 8th, 2017 at the Holiday Inn in Timonium, MD.

Michael Donnelly will discuss Using Special Needs Trusts. Special Needs Trusts are trusts for disabled individuals, which although available to the beneficiary, are not considered assets of the disabled beneficiary for purposes of qualifying for government services. He will focus on when Special Needs Trusts (SNTs) can be used, common mistakes to avoid when drafting a SNT and he will also review a sample SNT document.

Mr. Donnelly has over 40 years of legal experience. Known for his high-quality work, he advises clients in the areas of tax law, business law, trust and estate planning, wealth preservation, executive compensation, estate litigation, and planning for the disabled.

Mr. Donnelly has served as Chairman of the Estate Section of the Maryland State Bar Association and as President of the Baltimore Estate Planning Council. He has also served as Chair of the Baltimore Estate and Gift Tax Study Group.

He has served for over ten years as an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore Law School teaching Estate Planning, Estates, and Trusts. He frequently lectures on estate planning and estate administration topics for the Bar Association and the National Business Institute.
