Offit Kurman Attorney David Severn Quoted In The Frederick News-Post

Wal-Mart pulls plans for west Frederick store

Wal-Mart has pulled the plug on plans to open a new store as part of a shopping center planned for the site of the former Frederick Towne Mall in west Frederick.

Property owner Rockwood Capital on Tuesday received a letter from Wal-Mart announcing its withdrawal from the project, according to Dave Severn, an attorney representing Rockwood Capital.

Severn said in a phone interview on Thursday that his client was "shocked and flabbergasted."

Plans to demolish the former mall at 1301 W. Patrick St. and redevelop the space as a four-building shopping center complete with a 155,000-square-foot Wal-Mart have been in the works for several years. Wal-Mart and Rockwood also entered into a contract several years ago, Severn said.
