LEADING CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY JOINS OFFIT KURMAN Maple Lawn, MD | August 11, 2011 Offit Kurman announced today that Rachel Marblestone Kamins has joined the firm’s litigation practice as a principal in its Baltimore/Washington office. “We are excited to bring Rachel Kamins on board as Offit Kurman continues to expand,” commented Tim Lynch, head of Offit Kurman’s Litigation practice. “While we had some experience in criminal law in Pennsylvania, it was one of the areas where we lacked depth in Maryland. With the addition of Rachel, we now have the capability of handling felony matters in Maryland in addition to Pennsylvania. We were very lucky to get Rachel to agree to join us.” Ms. Kamins’ career consists of a nearly two-decade, diverse criminal practice. A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, Ms. Kamins received her J.D. in 1992. After spending a year as a judicial law clerk overseeing a criminal trial docket, Ms. Kamins joined the Office of the Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division in 1993, where she represented the State in all types of criminal appeals in the Court of Special Appeals, the Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. During that time, she also handled federal habeas corpus cases in the United States District Court and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. In 2004, Ms. Kamins went into private practice where she represented criminal defendants throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia. Acknowledged by her peers for her outstanding professional achievements, Ms. Kamins was named in the 2010 and 2011 Super Lawyer. She also served as Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Criminal Law and Practice Section Council from 2009-2010. “I welcome the opportunity to continue and expand upon my flourishing criminal defense practice in a dynamic law firm that can also service the multi-faceted legal needs of my clients and their families,” Kamins explained upon joining the firm. “Offit Kurman is the perfect fit, and I am honored to be a part of its team of esteemed attorneys.” At Offit Kurman, Ms. Kamins will continue to represent criminal defendants at every stage of the criminal process in state and federal courts. Her practice areas will include state and federal appeals, state and federal post conviction proceedings, federal habeas corpus actions, sentence modifications and correction of illegal sentences. Additionally, she will handle drug and alcohol treatment proceedings, violations of probation, parole matters, misdemeanor and felony trials, and grand jury investigations.
