Ed Bloom Named Chair of Offit Kurman’s Real Estate Practice Group

For Immediate Release

EdBloom_lores2Bethesda, MD | November 17, 2015 Offit Kurman has appointed Edward A. Bloom chair of the firm’s Real Estate Law and Transactions practice group. Effective December 1st, Mr. Bloom will oversee more than a dozen real estate attorneys across the firm’s nine Mid-Atlantic offices. He succeeds William Erskine, who has occupied the role for the previous two years. Although he is stepping down as practice group leader, Mr. Erskine will continue as an attorney with the firm.

Ed Bloom joined Offit Kurman in December of last year. For more than 30 years, he has practiced real estate and transactional law, with an emphasis on development, litigation, licensing, leasing, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He represents real estate tenants in both large and small lease negotiations, as well as lenders, borrowers, and asset portfolio purchasers on issues such as on loan workouts, restructurings and foreclosures. In his experience as a business attorney, Mr. Bloom has regularly formed corporate entities, provided guidance on expansions and M&A deals, and counseled clients on organizational structure, software licensing, succession, and other corporate matters. In recognition of his accomplishments, Best Lawyers has ranked Mr. Bloom a top practicing real estate lawyer for five years running. “The Real Estate group is in good hands with Ed,” said Jim Ries, Offit Kurman Practice Group Manager. “He has demonstrated a rare level of skill not only as a lawyer, but as a leader. He has a knack for explaining complex topics to and getting results for his clients.” “Bill has been an exceptional practice group leader,” Mr. Ries added. “I know that the firm very much appreciates his time and efforts and, at the same time, that Ed is more than ready to fulfill the role with the same standard of excellence.” Mr. Bloom echoed Mr. Ries’ sentiments. “It will be difficult to fill Bill’s shoes,” he said. “It is the kind of challenge I eagerly await. I look forward to helping Offit Kurman become, even more, the go-to firm for real estate needs in our region.” To learn more about Offit Kurman’s Real Estate Law and Transactions practice, please click here.
