Friday Factoid: Rights to “Happy Birthday” Song May Be in the Public Domain

A division of Warner Music Group Corp. is still collecting copyright royalties on public uses of the Happy Birthday song. In a recently filed federal class action lawsuit, a group of film production companies claim that new evidence suggests the rights to use the song were released into the public domain many decades ago.
