A federal judge held that a New York dentist misused copyright laws to prevent patients from submitting negative reviews of her practice on Yelp (the online review website). The dentist required patients to sign a contract that assigned to her the copyright in any online reviews of her practice, and then threatened to sue former patients who posted a negative review of her practice. Several former patients then filed a class action suit to declare these copyright enforcement efforts to be unlawful.
