- Maryland has the 7th highest state-local tax burden in the U.S. Residents of Maryland paid 10.6 percent of income in state-local taxes in the fiscal 2011. The national average is 9.8 percent
- By comparison, Pennsylvania ranked 10th at 10.3 percent and Virginia ranked 30th with 9.42 percent.
- New York at 12.6 percent was the highest and Wyoming at 6.9 percent was the lowest percentage of income.
