PRACTICE FOCUS

Mr. Johnson’s practice focuses on representing companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies in complex litigation matters, including business torts, business contracts, real estate disputes, government contracts, premises liability, and insurance defense cases. Mr. Johnson also has substantial experience representing businesses in employment disputes in state, federal, and appellate courts, as well as advising clients on executive employment agreements, employment policies, and compliance issues arising under state and federal regulations.

 In addition to his litigation experience, Mr. Johnson serves as the “outside general counsel” for small business clients, where he assists companies with formation and organizational structure issues; drafting and negotiating a broad spectrum of business agreements; and, advising management on legal and business issues in furtherance of devising practical solutions to existing and anticipated risks.

  • Obtained summary judgment and dismissal on behalf of a Fortune 50 company in a case alleging violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); representation included successfully defending the trial court’s dismissal on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
  • Obtained dismissal on behalf of a foreign corporation in a trademark dispute; representation included successfully defending the trial court’s dismissal on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
  • Obtained summary judgment and dismissal on behalf of a Fortune 100 company in a case alleging violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA); representation included successfully defending the trial court’s dismissal on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
  • Successfully represented a Fortune 100 company in a breach of contract case, resulting in dismissal.
  • Obtained summary judgment and dismissal on behalf of a Fortune 100 company in a case alleging violations of Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and § 1981 of the Civil Rights Act.
  • Successfully represented a commercial lender in defense of a multi-million dollar construction loan dispute, resulting in a favorable jury verdict.
  • Successfully represented the owners of an intellectual property services company in defense of a $15 million trade secret dispute, resulting in a favorable settlement.
  • Successfully represented a Fortune 250 company in an employment action, resulting in dismissal on summary judgment.
  • Successfully represented a Fortune Global 500 company by obtaining summary judgment rulings and dismissals in multiple employment actions.
