Can Medical Cannabis for Pain Really Help with the Opioid-Dependency Epidemic?

Wednesday, May 10th

12:00 – 1:00 PM EST

An oft-cited evaluation of data circulating the cannabis press is that in states with medical cannabis, there is a 25% reduction in opioid use. But correlation is not causation, as any scientist will tell you. Does an individual’s cannabis use actually reduce opioid dependency? Join Offit Kurman cannabis attorney Darren Weiss and his guest Dr. Pritesh Kumar, as they discuss these questions and more. Dr. Pritest Kumar is the primary investigator of a large harm-reduction cohort study across Canada, investigating chronic pain patients’ use of medical cannabis as a potential substitute for opioids. Dr. Kumar earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology, with a focus in cannabinoid (cannabis) pharmacology, from the University of Louisville. He is the CEO of PhytoSciences, an international organization comprising 40+ scientists based in the US, Canada, India, Africa and Latin America. The company consults on clinical trial solutions, novel drug delivery technology development, industrial scale manufacturing and commercial bioprocessing, and has provided consulting services to several US state government officials, as well as international governments, on effective medical cannabis policies. He regularly advises on standards for manufacturing, and actively serves as an adviser to the Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations.
