On Wednesday night, the Columbia Orchestra played in celebration of Columbia’s 50th Birthday at the new Chrysalis at Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods.
Hard to believe that Columbia is 50 years old. Hard to believe that Columbia has had an orchestra for 40 years. Hard to believe that we now have a big green music venue that is called the Chrysalis.
All of these events came together in a lovely fashion last night, on a beautiful summer night, before a crowd of happy listeners.
The Orchestra regaled with music from My Fair Lady, Star Wars, the 1812 Overture, and a moving salute to members of the armed forces when their branch’s music was played.
Our County Executive Allan Kittleman started the night with a warm welcome to the gathering. His remarks on how things have changed in 50 years were not lost on this Howard County native.
