Friday Factoid: Sandwich Ingredient List is Not Copyrightable

Decades after a fast food restaurant worker created a popular chicken sandwich for Church’s Chicken, the employee filed a $10 million dollar lawsuit against the company on claims of trademark and copyright infringement. In affirming the dismissal of the suit, a U.S. Court of Appeals held that a mere recipe or set of instructions to combine “chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayonnaise on a bun to create a sandwich” is not eligible for copyright protection.
