Practice Focus

Tom Repczynski has been in private practice since January 1997, after internships with the Justice Department and the Court of Federal Claims and clerking under Kenneth Starr in the Office of the Independent Counsel from late 1995. He focuses his practice in general commercial and civil litigation with an emphasis on creditor’s rights, bankruptcy, landlord/tenant, fiduciary disputes, and general collection matters. Tom represents corporate and individual clients from across the country in federal, bankruptcy and state court matters with legal issues covering the gamut from simple to complex contract disagreements to trusts and estates (i.e. inheritance related) disputes to protecting intellectual property and landlord rights in national interest bankruptcy proceedings.

Points of Distinction

In conjunction with Tom’s long-time service as a director and officer of the Northern Virginia Bankruptcy Bar Association (NVBBA), Tom served on both the Bar Liaison Committee to the Alexandria Division of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the district-wide, Local Bankruptcy Rules Committee. Tom is currently a member of the Leadership Fairfax Class of 2010 and is a past recipient of the President’s Award for his service to the Fairfax Bar Association.

Activities

Tom is active in both community and Bar-related activities. Tom currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Fairfax Bar Association; holds the office of President of the Ocean Sands South Property Owners Association in Corolla, North Carolina; serves as a class officer for his Dartmouth alumni class; and is a past Chairman of his Fairfax County, Virginia, community association’s Architectural Review Board.

Tom has previously served as President and member of the Board of Directors of the Walter T. McCarthy Law Library in Arlington, Virginia, and in June 2008 stepped down as chairman of the Library Committee for the Fairfax Bar Association with oversight responsibilities for the Fairfax Public Law Library. In addition, in his spare time, Tom is an umpire for the West Springfield Little League in Burke, Virginia, assists with his daughter’s Daisy Troop, and plays goalie for an adult coed soccer team.

Publications/Speeches

Tom has been a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy and creditor’s rights-related issues at the local, regional and Virginia-state levels.

Prior Work

Tom worked for two years with the National Insurance Crime Bureau and its predecessor, the Insurance Crime Prevention Institute, prior to receiving his law degree.
