Practice Focus

A frequent author and speaker on legal issues affecting the legalized cannabis industry, Darren H. Weiss is a cannabis industry thought leader and a seasoned business counselor and litigator. Mr. Weiss has built his practice working with businesses to maintain, preserve, and protect their most valuable assets. A passionate and experienced legal advocate, Mr. Weiss’s practice focuses on cannabis and employment law. His cannabis law practice includes regulatory and compliance work, business transactions and corporate guidance, and labor and employment. Mr. Weiss's employment practice spans from advice and counsel to defense of collective and class action litigation, charges of harassment and discrimination, and enforcement of restrictive covenants. Mr. Weiss represents clients in a wide variety of industries, including medical care, manufacturing, professional services, and financial services.


Prior to joining Offit Kurman, Mr. Weiss was an associate at a Baltimore/Washington law firm, where he concentrated on commercial litigation and corporate law. During his time there, Mr. Weiss represented clients in commercial and litigation matters in the medical care, food service, construction, mental health, technology, and retail industries, and regularly appeared before State and federal courts. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Weiss completed a clerkship with the Honorable Lenore R. Gelfman, Administrative Judge at the Circuit Court for Howard County. Mr. Weiss received his Bachelor’s Degree magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis and his Juris Doctorate cum laude from George Mason University School of Law. During law school Mr. Weiss served as Executive Editor on the George Mason Law Review, participated in Moot Court and Trial Advocacy, and had the opportunity to intern on both trial and appellate courts.


Prior to law school, Mr. Weiss worked at a business intelligence software company where he consulted on enterprise-wide performance management initiatives for public- and private-sector clients and taught workshops on software and business integration.


Mr. Weiss is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the National Cannabis Bar Association, the Baltimore County Bar Association, the Howard County Bar Association, and the Bar Association of Baltimore City. Mr. Weiss is admitted to practice by the Maryland Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. Mr. Weiss is also active in the Baltimore Jewish community and resides in Baltimore County with his wife and daughters.
